Bordering DC on the north and situated in the more western part of Montgomery County, it is considered a “close-in” suburb providing the convenience of a 20–30-minute drive to Downtown DC and quick access to the Capital Beltway. The Friendship Heights Metro at the Chevy Chase – DC Line and the Bethesda Metro Station in Downtown Bethesda connect residents to the rail system which runs through most of DC and its closest suburbs. Upscale retail, restaurants, and food markets can be found in commercial areas surrounding the Metro stations.
Downtown Bethesda has become a food lover's heaven with a large variety of restaurants and eateries offering international fare and popular American entrees.
