Welcome to Capitol Hill
Situated in DC's Southeast and Northeast quadrants east of the US Capitol, the Capitol Hill area features some of the city’s oldest and most architecturally distinctive homes. Much of Capitol Hill holds a historic designation and offers distinctive Victorian, Federal and Colonial attached homes that have been updated, renovated, and restored to include today’s most popular amenities and interior design. The homes in the area range in size from tiny to huge, with condo and apartment buildings adding to the variety of housing options.
To some the neighborhood has expanded in recent years, spreading east and north to include what are called Hill East, the southern H Street area, and Kingman Park. Original Capitol Hill was the area just east and in relatively close proximity to the Capitol, including streets surrounding Stanton Park, Lincoln Park, Eastern Market, and Barracks Row. Several Metrorail stations serve the area; they include Union Station, Capitol South, Eastern Market, and Potomac Ave. Like most of DC's neighborhoods, in recent years the area has experienced a surge in home values. Parking is difficult, with off-street spaces commanding a premium. Residents however benefit from special residential permits allowing them to park near their homes.
