Most of the original Silver Spring is inside the Capital Beltway and generally includes the neighborhoods of Blair, Four Corners, Woodmoor, Woodside, and Downtown Silver Spring. Like other areas, there are often micro-neighborhoods within these areas. The residential areas offer a wide variety of home styles and sizes. Most homes are detached and there are some pockets of townhomes, in strictly residential communities that pamper residents with their suburban charm and unique amenities.
In Downtown Silver Spring, which offers an array of dining, entertainment, and shopping, new condo buildings have multiplied in recent years, increasing possibilities for urban living in the downtown area. The Silver Spring Metro station draws residents to the area, as well as the convenience of being close to the DC line and the Capital Beltway. If you think of Silver Spring being much larger than this, you are not alone. Many consider Silver Spring to be all the neighborhoods that the US Postal Service has designated Silver Spring, which includes almost all of eastern Montgomery County.
